#1 Stephen Goff-14 Single Vineyards/ 15 WV

Steve is the winemaker/ Vineyardist at Colene Clemens in the Chehalem Mountains. His own, minuscule estate wines, are made at the CC facilities. The interesting thing is how different the wines are.

Here’s truly where terroir comes in. Steve’s two single vineyard wines come from the Dundee Hills (Weber) and Yamhill- Carlton (Shea) AVA’S & C. Clemens from the Chehalem Mountains. I’ve asked Steve what he does differently and he shrugs and says, nothing. The wines really show the differences of the different AVA’S.

Steve’s are, what I call, Pinot the way it should be. Pretty, ethereal, sensuous. Full of flavor but not heavy at all. It’s the ol’ “iron fist in a velvet glove.” The Clemens wines are bigger, more “beef” wines. Steve’s own wines are the only Pinots I’ve tasted from Oregon that truly remind me of Johnny T’s (Thomas’) wines. I can give no higher compliment!

As far as the muddy waters, you need to know that when you buy Penner Ash, Willakenzie Estate, and Grand Moraine wines from Oregon, what they don’t put up front is that all three Oregon Wineries are owned by Kendall Jackson! And that’s just the beginning. This is what’s been happening over the last few years. We’re here for you! You’ll find the best farmed Pinot from us… Thomas, Arterberry Maresh, McKinlay, Walter Scott and the above, the amazing Stephen Goff.

I’m dead serious,
S.T.
