Sept 17th 2010: White Burgundy; Chardonnay at its Best
I’m always amazed that when we do White Burgundy a lot of folks are surprised at how incredible the wines are. I’m like, man, this is one of the greatest wine grapes in the world! When you let it speak of the soil and micro climate and just LET the wine make itself it’s an amazing experience. When you oak it up and stir the whageezy out of it and force it thru malolactic fermentation (can you say BUTTER) of course it’s gonna taste different. Kind of like manufactured wine. And there you have it. Chardonnay is one of the best grapes for transferring the nuance of the “terroir” thru the grape. When you amp it up with wood and the like the subtle underlying terroir is squashed under the weight of the human hand. These wines we’re tasting this Friday sing of where they’re from. And I’m excited about that!
