Southern Rhone Reds: The Smells & Flavors of Autumn ($15)
Friday, October 13th, 2017 4 pm – 7:30 pm @ Mt Tabor Fine Wines
I’m back and sassy after a week of snorkeling the West shore of Maui. Even got to swim, by myself, with 2 huge turtles for quite a while. It’s hard to describe the feeling.
Oh, and about the tasting. One of everyone’s favorite wine regions, France’s Rhone Valley, offers up tasty, character-ful wines. When compared to similar wines from other famous regions, they are bargains. You can find many Rhone wines under $30 that will age and improve greatly in the cellar. Hard to find a Burgundy or Barolo that you could buy for $20 and reap the rewards down the road. Wines like Vacqueyras, Gigondas, Costieres, Lirac and even some Cotes Du Rhones can improve with time in the bottle.
This Lineup came together beautifully, allowing us to sample many of the famous wines of the area… Garrigue Vacqureas, Pesquier Gigondas Sabon Chateauneuf- Du-Pape… these are some of the finest, natural leaning estates making wines of the soil and not of the grape. Always remember, the grape is the vehicle to express the soil and climate it’s grown in. And that, my friends, is what you call terroir.
