Northwest Treasures

Over the years we have developed close relationships with most of the premier wineries here in the Northwest. The majority are very small and family owned. In many cases, the winery is literally "under" the residence. Production is tiny, often three barrels of Pinot Noir from this vineyard and five barrels from another. The best produce special lots from specific vineyards and quantities often amount to a few hundred cases with distribution limited to the Northwest. Our relationships enable us to secure more than our fair share of these allocated gems.

Some of Our Favorites
Cameron, Ken Wright Cellars, Willakenzie Estate Cristom, Brick House, Westrey, John Thomas, Hamacher, Beaux Freres, McKinlay, Broadley, Panther Creek, Evesham Wood

Leonetti, Quilceda Creek, DeLille Cellars, Woodward Canyon,
Andrew Will, L'Ecole No. 41

2005  J. Thomas Pinot Noir Offering
SOLD OUT

This is the 11th vintage that we have offered this rare and beautiful Oregon Pinot and it’s been a pleasure to watch the growth in demand over the years. I’m proud to say we get a huge chunk of John’s total production and in the first few years we would pre sell about 75% of our allocation and then we’d sell the rest off the shelf which would last through the end of the year. Each future vintage it would sell out sooner and for about the last 4 years we have sold it all on pre sell and I haven’t had a bottle on the shelf since. The reason I mention this is that in the last two years the demand has been so huge that we’ve been selling out quicker and quicker and last year it was gone in 3 weeks. And that’s with 140 cases to sell! The situation this year has taken on a new direction. Fans have become so connected to this wine that over the past couple of months the list of “put me down now, I don’t want to miss out” has become a new category. As of now (before the offer) we’ve got orders for 65 cases and 34 magnums. This means that the wine will be gone in no time and if you want some respond to this offer NOW to be assured of securing some.

Most of you know John’s story but for those who haven’t tasted the nectar of the Gods I think the following is about as good as I’ve ever explained it.

Here it is folks, one of the finest wines made anywhere. And for my money, I don’t think there is a better Pinot Noir made in the New World. Strong statement, you say? Maybe so, but I just can’t seem to find the words to express how really incredible it is. Still, I’ll try. But don’t take too long to read it – the futures sell incredibly fast, and 2005 was a VERY small vintage of extremely high quality. You’re going to want to get your order in fast, while it lasts.

Great Vintage + Best Pinot Noir in the Land = Perfection

What is it about John Thomas’s Pinot Noir that makes it my absolute favorite in the New World? It’s pretty simple: 4-1/2 acres of premium soil in the Red Hills of Dundee, planted by a perfectionist with ideal clones and plant spacing
on a piece of land tilted to the right exposition.

Over the years John has gotten to know each and every plant in his vineyard intimately. This is his life – living in the vineyard and providing the right stuff to take it from pruning to harvest. He treats his land with love and respect.
Before harvesting, he tastes the grapes many times to make sure they’re ripe not only in
the lab, but also in flavor. He is so in sync with the vineyard that he knows exactly when to harvest each and every block.

Once the grapes are brought into the winery, he feels that most of the work is done. Now it’s his responsibility to just let the wine make itself. No fancy gadgets, heavily toasted barrels, spinning cones, roto-fermenters, etc. –
the quality comes from the vineyard. It’s basically getting the vineyard into the bottle
in its purest form.

That is why this beautifully crafted wine is so driven by what is known as terroir – the particular smell and taste that a piece of land, along with its soil and climate, imparts on the fruit. And because John does so little to interrupt
this “communication” each and every year, his Pinot has that “Thomas” thing (terroir).
It’s hard to put into words, but it’s so distinctive that you can pick it out in a blind tasting. It’s the very thing that makes wine so special. What
we wine fanatics crave and search for endlessly, The Thomas Pinot Noir has in spades.
This is very special stuff, and we are proud to offer it to you.
