March 26th 2010: Red Burgundy- The Benchmark in Pinot Noir

So, last week we tasted some delicious Oregon Pinots and this week we’ll feature the spiritual & physical home of Pinot Noir…………..Burgundy, France. I tried to put together a comparative tasting this week with price points similar to last weeks so that we can judge for ourselves which we prefer or if it’s just apples and oranges (or Dundee Hills and Gevrey Chambertin).

Here’s what you’ll be tasting;

2006 Domaine Marechal, Ladoix       $30

2007 Christophe Buisson, Saint Romain    $33

2006 Jean-Marc Pavelot, Savigny Les Beaune, “Guettes”  1er Cru   $40

2006 Jean-Jacques Confuron, Chambolle Musigny      $49

2006 Chandon de Briailles, Pernand Vergelesses “Ill de Vergelesses”  1er Cru  $52

Premium Pour ($7)
2002 Domaine Dupont Tisserandot, Gevrey Chambertin “Les Cazetiers”  1er Cru  $75

All of the wines are simply delicious and very fairly priced for Red Burgundy. This is a wonderful opportunity to taste, buy and lay down some Pinot Noir that will improve for years in the bottle and won’t break the bank doing so! Anyone and everyone who loves Pinot Noir should have a fair amount of Burgs in the cellar.
