June 18th 2010: Italian Whites
We’re two for two on our white wine tastings this year. These kick fanny white tastings have been extremely well attended and I’ve been hearing comments like, “Wow, this tasting is one of the best you’ve ever done”. Can you believe it, for a WHITE wine tasting. Like I said in the last white tweet, these have become unbelievably popular! And the one this week will surely continue the tradition. Italian whites. What’s not to love?
If you like delicious, eclectic wines from unheard of grapes and regions, most of Friday’s wines are right up your alley. I love to find wines that you probably haven’t heard of or seen BUT……………..they have to be delicious as well. And so these are. And to top it off, it’s supposed to be 71 and sunny tomorrow!!!!!!!!! After a spring of setting rainfall and low temp records this could be a real treat
THE POURS
2008 Zellina, Pinot Bianco/ Friuli $8
Great buy!
2008 Marotti Campi, Verdicchio Dei Castelli Di Jesi/ Marche $13
Yumm!
2007 Cabanon, Cabanon Blanc Sauvignon/ Oltrepo Pavese $20
Wow! Never tasted a S. Blanc like this one. From the race horse region just south of Milano.
2007 Movia, Ribolla Gialla/ Friuli-Slovenia $25
Part of the vineyard is in Friuli and part in Slovenia. Ancient variety.
2008 Punta Crena, Pigato “Vigneto Ca da Rena”/ Riveira Ligure Di Ponennte $25
Talk about ancient variety. This was almost extinct and still little remains.
PREMIUM POUR ($3)
2008 Les Cretes, Chardonnay “Vigne Frissonniere’/ Valle D’Aosta $37
A fantastic estate in the NW corner of Italy bordering Switzerland. This is one of the most well regarded whites in all of Italy.
The 2008 Cameron Pinot Noir “Dundee Hills” is out and, if interested, e-mail or call and I’ll give you special pricing info. By the case, the wine will be in the low $20’s per bottle. A great buy from one of the best wineries in Oregon. Pure, Artisanal and very small production. This will only be available for under a month!
