Feb 26th 2010: Killer B's; Barolo, Barbaresco & Barbera

The Killer B’s will make its “Friday Tastings” debut for 2010 this Friday. Always a popular tasting, there are some treats in store for you. We’re adding a new “B” into the mix this time from an area that, at one time, was part of the Piedmont. Just south of Milan is the area know as Ultrepo Pavese. Was Piemonte but now it’s part of Lombardy. A land of suburbs and race horse farms this is the home to the grape Bonarda. While tasting over the past few weeks to find some tasty wines to put into the tasting I came across this beautiful B. I was so impressed with the quality/price ratio I decided that you all needed to taste this! Plus, it fits in with this field just fine. So, we have 1 Barbera, 2 Barbaresco’s and 2 Barolo’s…..aaaaannnnnd let’s not forget…….. 1 Bonarda.

The Wines

2007 Reverdito, Barbera D’ Alba    $12

2005 Cabanon, Bonarda (the rogue “B” from next door)   $25

2005 Monchiero, Barolo     $30

2005 GD Vajra, Barolo “Albe”    $35

2004 Ugo Lequio, Barbaresco “Gallina” (Bruno Giacosa made wine from these very grapes for years)   $42

Premium Pour ($5)
2004 Cantina Del Pino, Barbaresco “Ovello”   $55 (huge scores and reputation)

This will be a tasting not to miss. The 04 and 05 Barolo’s and Barbaresco’s are two fantastic vintages for these wines.

Salud!
Sandy
