RED BURGUNDY; BENCHMARK PINOT NOIR ($20) Friday, August 31st/ 4- 7:30

30 Aug

Our final tasting of August caps off a very strong month of Friday imbibing! This promises to be the best of the bunch but it will have to be as good as I think it will to top last weeks White Burgundies. If you missed that one…..you blew it. In my opinion it was one of the best of 2012. The lineup this week should provide a great end of our summer tastings. Like I mentioned last week, Burgundy has had a string of great vintages of late and 2009 and 2010 are two of the best. Red Burgs can take a lot of patience and need 8-15 years to show their best but in these two vintages they offer delicious drinking out of the box. Over the years that we’ve been pouring these wines many a time people have come up to me and asked “What’s up with these wines? I don’t get the high prices.” I’d reply “ you have to lay them down for a long while in a cool cellar and then you’ll get it and be rewarded beyond your dreams.” But with the 09’s and 10’s you can see the potential immediately. They will certainly reward lengthy time in the cellar but they’re pleasant drinking out of the box. The lineup includes some killer values as well as fantastic premier crus. Over the years wines from Robert Chevillon were almost impossible to obtain but in the premium pour we have a classic producers premier cru for $20 less than release price. These deals are a byproduct of our terrible economy over the last 4 years. If you like Pinot Noir you’ll love these wines!
